Our mission is to provide patients, healthcare personnel and the pharmaceutical industry with a network specialising in the development, distribution and marketing of orphan products for the treatment of rare diseases and products and services to satisfy unmet medical needs.

Background
Just like orphan children, the development of orphan drugs requires special care and attention. The term was coined in the US in the early 1980s, when patient organisations for rare diseases made politicians aware that the pharmaceutical companies were reluctant to invest in developing orphan drugs, as the small volumes meant that it was not profitable.
 
Priorities for the future
In the future, our aim is to be more active in the clinical development. By increasing our influence in this phase and continuing to strengthen our expertise on regulatory issues, we will optimise the prospects for orphan drugs to reach the market.
