1998 Swedish Orphan International was awarded a humanitarian prize from the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) patient organisation for its pioneering work, which has led to a definite change for patients with rare disorders throughout the world.
1999 Swedish Orphan International AB received the ALMI Prize on the grounds that the company had “made an unprofitable market profitable by means of a unique concept. In so doing, the company has succeeded in generating continuous and strong growth. It has discovered an important potential international market and acquired a significant export share.”
2000 Swedish Orphan International received NORD’s Corporate Leadership Award for the development of Orfadin®.
2002 Swedish Orphan International’s founder and Chairman, Lars-Uno Larsson, was voted Businessman of the Year in Sweden. The prize was awarded by Stiftelsen Bolleks Kunskapsfond ( the Bollek Foundation Knowledge Fund) in collaboration with ALMI Företagspartner and the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth (NUTEK).
2003 Swedish Orphan International received “The NORD 20-year International Achievement Award”. The company was awarded the prize for its “extraordinary international efforts to spread knowledge of the need for orphan drug legislation and diplomatic efforts in all industrialised countries in the world.”
2004 Swedish Orphan International took a place among the top 200 in the list of the 500 fastest growing companies in the EU.
The company was also placed fifth in the Swedish marathon list of gazelle companies for the fifth year in a row.
2007 Orfadin® received the “Golden Pill Award” from the French magazine Prescrire. This award is only handed out every few years and is for therapeutic breakthroughs.
In Spain Orfadin® received the General Council of Pharmacists’ annual honorary award, one of the most prestigious in Spain. The purpose of the award is to highlight the research and development conducted by companies manufacturing orphan drugs against rare disorders.
Orfadin® also received the prize for “Most Innovative Idea of 2006”, which is awarded by the magazine Correo Farmaceuticos.
2009 Swedish Orphan International is one of six companies nominated by the Swedish Trade Council for the 2009 Swedish Export Prize.
