Oncology is the field of medicine that studies tumors (cancer) and seeks to understand their development, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
Today there are more than 200 known forms of cancer. Modern methods in cell- and molecular biology have led us to a better understanding of how cancer develops and how the cancer could be treated. Thus, significant advances have been made in new therapeutic approaches to arrest tumor growth and transforming acute cancer into a chronic disease which can be controlled.
